Developmental editing - assesses and reorganizes material to improve its organization and content. It also serves to clarify meaning, improve flow, and smooth language.
Copy editing - editing for grammar, usage, spelling, punctuation, and other errors in the mechanics of style. This also includes editing the text to conform to the required style and verifying internal consistency of facts.
Proofreading - the final tidy-up after your document has been copy edited. Proofreading verifies that design specifications have been followed and will identify any final spelling, typographical, and other errors.
